🐭 What is Mouse Club?

Every child who takes part in Mouse Club gets their very own little plush mouse. But Mouse isn’t just a cuddly toy; Mouse is a learning companion, a friend for big feelings, and a link between home and school.

Children play with Mouse at home and take part in fun, playful activities that help them feel more confident about school life. Parents receive tips, ideas, and resources to make learning feel easy and natural.

An evaluation funded by the OVO Foundation looked at how Mouse Club supported families. Here’s what they found:

❤️ Mouse helps with big feelings

Many children feel nervous about starting school, but Mouse makes it easier. One parent told us:

“My daughter would say, ‘Mouse is scared about starting school.’ She was really talking about herself, and it helped me understand how she felt.”

🎒 Mouse supports transitions

Children brought Mouse in their school bags, used Mouse in pretend play, and told teachers what Mouse had been doing at home. It helped build a sense of continuity between home and school.

💭 Mouse builds important skills

Teachers and parents noticed improvements in:

  • Confidence
  • Communication
  • Problem-solving
  • Friendships

Mouse gave children a way to express themselves, try new things, and explore the world through play.

🏠 It works at home, too

Even when schools were closed during the pandemic, Mouse Club adapted. Teachers dropped off packs, created videos, and sent activity ideas. Parents said Mouse made home learning feel more playful and less pressured.

“We went on an autumn walk with Mouse, collected leaves, and took photos. It didn’t feel like ‘schoolwork’, it felt like fun.”

Mouse Club is about connecting families and schools. When parents feel involved, and children feel supported, everyone benefits.

The report confirmed what we see every day: Small things, like a soft toy and simple activities, can make a big difference to how children feel about learning.
